(Wife) Death25 October 1852Maria Elizabeth became a widow when Thomas Coghill died on 25 October 1852 as the result of an accident, at about age 32. His death left his widow with five young children, three from his first marriage. His death left her with five young children, three from his first marriage.3

They were enumerated with three children. William and Thomas B. Coghill, sons from Maria's first marriage, were enumerated with the surname Hagerman and were ages 9 and 7 years, respectively; and the baby, Sallie A., the first child from the couple's marriage, was ten months old.

We note that Maria's three stepchildren, Susan Ann Coghill, John D. Coghill and Louisiana Coghill, the children of Thomas Coghill, Maria's first husband with his first wife, Eliza Huffman, were not enumerated in the Hagerman household in 1860. Susan had married John Lankford in 1856 and was enumerated with him in the household of his parents; and we have been unable to locate John or Louisiana, who would have been about 18 and 15 years old, respectively, in 1860.6

Deed Memorial*14 January 1828A memorial of an indented deed of reconveyance dated 14 January 1828 was made between John Sweeny of the city of Dublin, gentleman and Sarah Atkinson of said city, widow, acting executrix of the last will and testament of her husband Robert Atkinson, late of the said city, gentleman, deceased of the one part, and Thomas Atkinson of said city of Dublin, merchant, of the other part.

Reciting that by deed of mortgage bearing date the 7th day of August 1810, the said Thomas Atkinson in order to secure to the said John Sweeny and Robert Atkinson the payment of the sum of £600 of the then Irish currency with interest, did grant, assign and make over unto the said john Sweeny and Robert Atkinson the premises therein particularly described and granted, and by said deed now memorializing reassigned and herein after particularly set forth to hold same for the residue of the respective terms of years for which said Thomas Atkinson then held the same by virtue of the indenture of lease in said deed or mortgage recited, subject to the rents and covenants in said leases reserved and mentioned and also subject to the proviso or condition of redemption in same mortgage contained.

And reciting that the said Robert Atkinson, in or about the month of April 1826, had died, having first made and published his last will and testament in writing and thereof appointed his wife, the said Sarah Atkinson executrix, and Robert Owen executor. And that said Sarah Atkinson duly proved said will and obtained probate thereof.

And reciting that principal sum of £600 and all interest which had accrued due therein had been fully paid off and discharged.

The said deed, of which this was a memorial, witnessed that the said John Sweeny and Sarah Atkinson, for and in consideration of the premises and of 5 shillings to them then paid by the said Thomas Atkinson, did grant, reassign and make over to the said Thomas Atkinson all that house or tenements situate on the north side of Mark's Alley containing in front to said alley 15 feet, 6 inches, and from front to rear 39 feet, 6 inches, and in breadth in the rear 19 feet, 6 inches, be the same more or less, bounded on the west with Joseph Prestley's holding, and on the east with Spitalfields, on the north with a lot of ground marked No. 11, and on the south with Mark's Alley. And also all that lot of ground marked No. 11 Spitalfields containing in front to said street 21 feet, and from front to rear 47 feet 5 inches, and in breadth in the rear 21 feet be the same more or less, bounded on the east with said street, on the west with Mr. McCormick's holding, on the north with the lot No. 12 and on the south with the aforesaid tenements in Mark's Alley and Prestley's holding. And also all that and those the dwelling house, messuages or tenements in the city and county of Dublin called or known by No. 14 together with the yard, a backside behind the same, and also the new stable and necessary built by Thomas Plunkett on front of said yard or backside in as full and ample manner as same were held and enjoyed by Thomas Plunkett, and afterwards by the said Thomas Atkinson.

To hold same with the appurtenances unto said Thomas Atkinson, his executors, administrators and assigns from thenceforth for and during the residue and remainder then unexpired of the respective terms of 65 years and 60 years for which said premises were held by virtue of the respective indentures of lease thereof, subject to the rents and covenants in said leases reserved and mentioned, but freed and discharged from said deed of mortgage and mortgage debt.

The deed and memorial were witnessed by William James Bradley and George Atkinson of the city of Dublin, gentlemen, who saw both documents duly executed, signed and sealed. The memorial was registered on 21 January 1828.1

The applicants spoke "with regard to works of grace upon their souls and after a candid and full examination, they were unanimously received into the fellowship as Candidates for baptism."2

The applicants spoke "with regard to works of grace upon their souls and after a candid and full examination, they were unanimously received into the fellowship as Candidates for baptism."2 
(Member) Religion31 March 1805Zilpah Bolton and Nathaniel Everett, along with several others including Thomas Ditson, John Hayden, George Briggs Cox, Simeon Blanchard, Francis Green, Peter Vallett, John Woodward, Mary Marnson, Ruth Thayer, Venus Sylvester, Kezia Booth, Lydia Leeds, Botsey Jones, Versan Adams, Zebudah Hayden, Martha Farrar, Betsey Mirth Horton, Catherine Thayer, Lydia Sweetser and Sally Lovis, were baptized and became members of the Second Baptist Church, Boston, on Sunday, 31 March 1805. Description*Venus Sylvester was described as (black) in the church records and "Manning" was added later following her name. Whether it was her maiden or married name, however, was not indicated.3
