She was enumerated three days later, and also recorded as married, in the household of her mother and stepfather in St. Marys, Auglaize County, Ohio. We suspect they were in the process of divorcing. Keith had been 23 years of age, and Ella 18 years old, when they married.4

Donald was 13 years old, had completed his education through the 6th grade of Elementary School, and had attended school within the census year. Charlene was 10 years old, had completed her education through the 5th grade of Elementary School, and had attended school within the census year. Everyone in the household had lived in Lakewood, Cuyahoga County, Ohio on 1 April 1935.6

John Bloom was 23 years of age and working on the farm, and Lavina was 20 years old and working in the house. They were both able to read and write, and were enumerated with their two children. Clara M. was 2 years old and William was age six months. Two of Lavina's sisters, Louise and Eliza C., ages 18 and 13 years, respectively, were enumerated with their mother, Nancy Wilcox. Louise was recorded as having Rheumatism, and Eliza had attended school within the census year. They were both able to read, although not to write.2

This is what we know: Betsey Wilcox and Mercy Ann Wilcox were sisters, daughters of Philip D. Wilcox and Tabatha Sterling, and Polly M. Wilcox and Lucina Wilcox were also sisters, daughters of Harvey Wilcox and Susan Button. Philip was born in Rhode Island and Harvey was born in New York. The parents of Philip D. Wilcox, were identified on his Find a Grave memorial page as John and Jemima Wilcox, and the father of Harvey Wilcox was identified on his Find a Grave memorial page as Thomas James Wilcox. Both families lived in Lapeer County, Michigan, from 1850 through 1880, Philip's wife remaining there after his death in 1875. All of the parents were buried in Webster Cemetery in Almont Township, Lapeer County, Michigan. And, finally sisters, Betsey Wilcox and Mercy Ann Wilcox, and sisters, Polly M. Wilcox and Lucina Wilcox, all married into the Beebe family of St. Clair County, Michigan. Polly and Betsey, who were not sisters, married brothers, Alonzo S. Beebe and Nelson Beebe, respectively; and Mercy and Lucina, who were also not sisters, married brothers, Elbert Beebe and George S. He had not felt well for some days, and that morning complained of illness and between 9 and 10 o'clock retired to his bed. His family did not attach any undo importance to his condition, but as time passed, he became worse and a doctor was sent for. The physician did not arrive until 2 o'clock and, while questioning the sick man, learned that a few days before he had, by mistake, taken a drink from the wrong bottle. Instead of his intended drinking bottle, he had drunk from an unmarked bottle of sulfuric acid used for testing the fat content in the making of cream. Antidotes were immediately administered and every effort made to save his life, but in vain. The newspaper reported that death came "to relieve his suffering" at 3:25 PM. [S2425] Fred Bassin 1912 Nebraska Obituary, online at Historical Newspapers from 1700s-2000s, at www.newspapers.com, Cuming County Democrat, (West Point, Nebraska), Friday, 7 June 1912, page 1, died unexpectedly at age 71 last Thursday evening, May 30, 1912 of an ulceration of the stomach probably the result of an accident two years previously when he was run over by a buggy after closing the gate at his farm and attempting to get into the buggy as the team started to run, suffered from a rupture for some time but was practically cured by an Omaha doctor within the last month, on the day of his demise his son-in-law, Emil Wilde, brought him from his farm home at Rock creek in an auto and took him to the latter's home east of town, while in town, the aged man saw the old veterans marching to the cemetery for Memorial exercises and wanted to get into the ranks again, but his condition forbade it; was his expressed wish to pass away at his daughter's home and this wish came true, though unexpectedly soon; born in Brandenburg, Germany on March 20 1841, married Miss Louisa Schultz in 1871, came to America in 1884 with his wife and two children locating directly at West Point, Nebraska, then following year moved to Antelope County, while there they lost their boy in a peculiar way; he was in a shallow well to dip water for the stock, when the well caved in upon him and crushed out his life; they moved back to West Point, Cuming County and Mr. Bassin farmed the Herrold place north of town, now Paul Stuefer's farm; six years after coming to America, his wife Louisa passed away, leaving an older daughter and a little girl, Antoinette, not two years old, who was adopted by Henry Louins and now resides in the southern part of Missouri; seventeen years ago Mr. Bassin married Mrs. L. Breitkreutz and made his home on the farm just west of the Reverend Meeske church, west of Beemer, hitherto; leaves his wife and stepchildren and two daughters, Mrs. Emil Wilde and Miss Antoinette; funeral held Sunday at St. Paul's and burial at Mount Hope Cemetery; he was a soldier in the German army and had the trait of laboring faithfully although his lightness of frame was slightly against him; the German veterans in a body followed his remains to the grave.
