(Witness to Codicil) Codicil20 June 1778Samuel Reeves, James Wyman and Richard Hall witnessed the codicil to the will of the Reverend Ebenezer Turell dated 20 June 1778 in Medford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts (Continental Congress). The codicil ratified and confirmed his will, excepting that the will directed that his legacies and bequests be paid in sterling money (meaning the lawful money of Great Britain). And the said John Gerrard devised the said premises unto the said John Wynne, his executors, administrators and assigns, for the term of 99 years to commence the first day of May next proceeding the day of the death of the said John Gerrard upon trust, that in case said marriage should take effect, and that said Hannah should survive her said intended husband, that the said John Wynne should receive the rents and profits of all said lands and, in the first place, pay the ground rent and fines, and in the next place, pay unto the said Hannah and her assigns, one annuity of £100 sterling as a jointure and in full of all dower, and the said John Gerrard covenanted to charge his personal estate with £1,000 as a provision for the children of the said intended marriage.

The deed was duly executed by all parties and was witnessed by Cornet Thomas Gerrard of the 12th Regiment of Dragoons and Mary Gerrard, daughter of Samuel Gerrard of Liscartan. The memorial was registered on 26 June 1773.1

To hold unto the said Robert Waller, his executors, administrators and assigns, for thirteen years from the first of November last, by which deed it is declared that the said annuity, or any part thereof, shall not be at the disposal of, or subject to, the contractual debts or judgments of the said John Gerrard.

The deed was duly executed, signed and sealed by William Gerrard, John Gerrard and Robert Waller, and witnessed by Richard Foster of Scallanstown in the county of Meath, gentleman, and Robert McCormick of Liscartan aforesaid, farmer. The memorial was registered on 10 April 1780.4

(Mother) Deed MemorialMay 1813Hannah's yearly annuity of £100, was originally a part of her marriage settlement agreement, and then confirmed again shortly before her husband's death when he, by an indented deed, appointed a trustee to assure her payment. It was again directed and confirmed in a memorial of an indented deed of conveyance dated May 1813 made between her three daughters, spinsters, of the one part, the Reverend Mungo Henry Waller of Allenstown in the county of Meath, clerk, executor of Robert Waller, late of Allenstown aforesaid, deceased, of the second part, and George Thompson of Clonskeagh Castle in the county of Dublin, Esq. of the third part who, by his purchase, was assuming the obligation for the payment.5

The family's surname was transcribed as "Heston" by Ancestry. Gertrude was 47 years of age, a widow, and owned her home, which was valued at $5,000. She reported she had lived in the same house on 1 April 1935. (We note the census taker transposed her address so it read 597 and it should have been 579. By comparing the homeowners and addresses on the 1940 census with those on the 1930 census, we were able to recognize the mistake. She lived in the same house in 1930 also.) Her three children were enumerated with their mother in 1940, and were all attending school. Marian L. was 15 years old; Charles W. was 14; and Roland P. was 12. Also residing with Gertrude in 1940 was her sister-in-law, Carrie E. Heaton, who was 54 years of age, single, and a clerical worker in a steel fabrication company.4

Alonzo was 31 years of age and a farmer, and Emma was 32 years of age and keeping house. Their three young sons were enumerated with them in 1880. Riley, Isaac and Henry were ages 7, 5 and 2 years, respectively.6 
(Husband) Death14 April 1890Alonzo became a widower when Emma Ann (Bogart) Yancey died on 14 April 1890 at age 43.5 
Marriage*9 June 1896He married second, as her second husband, Mary E. (Reed) Butt, daughter of John D. Reed and Mary G. Clifford, on 9 June 1896 in White Pigeon, St. Joseph County, Michigan. They had both been widowed. Alonzo had five children from his first marriage, and Mary had three children.7,1,8 
Census US 1900*21 June 1900Mary E. and Alonzo Yancey were enumerated on the 1900 census taken on 21 June 1900 in Cottage Grove, Lane County, Oregon. Alonzo was 52 years of age and worked as a farmer, and Mary was 42 years of age. They rented their farm, had been married for 4 years, and Mary had given birth to three children, all of whom were living. Her younger daughter from her first marriage, Wilma B. Butt, was enumerated with her mother and stepfather in 1900. Wilma was at school, 12 years old, able to read and write, and had attended school for 5 months of the census year.9 
Census US 1910*22 April 1910Mary E. and Alonzo T. Yancey were enumerated on the 1910 census taken on 22 April 1910 on 7th Street, Princeville, Crook County, Oregon. Alonzo was 62 years of age and had his own income, and Mary was 51 years of age. They owned their house, had been married for 13 years, the second marriage for each, and Mary had given birth to three children, all of whom were living. A granddaughter, Anna Yancey, who was 6 years old, was enumerated with them in 1910.10 
(Husband) Death1924Alonzo became a widower for the second time when Mary Ellen (Reed) Butt Yancey died in 1924 at about age 66.8
