John G. Pierce1

b. 22 May 1877, d. 27 March 1935
Father*John M. Pierce1
Mother*Fanny Graves1
Birth*22 May 1877John G. Pierce was born on 22 May 1877 in Lebanon, Marion County, Kentucky.2,1,3
Name VariationHis full name was John Garfield Pierce.2
Marriage*1897He married first Alberta Sigerson, daughter of Wilson P. Sigerson and Elizabeth L. Hughes, about 1897.4
Census US 1900*11 June 1900Bertie and John G. Pierce were enumerated on the 1900 census taken on 11 June 1900 in Mason City, Mason County, Illinois. John was 24 years of age and a farmer, and Bertie was 25 years of age. They rented their farm, had been married for three years and Bertie had given birth to one child, and she was living. Gladys was 2 years old and was enumerated with her parents in 1900.4
Census US 1910*25 April 1910Alberta, recorded as 'Gertrude", and John G. Pierce were enumerated on the 1910 census taken on 25 April 1910 in Mason City, Mason County, Illinois. John was 33 years of age and worked as a self-employed general farmer. We have no idea why Alberta was recorded as "Gertrude". Our guess is that she reported her name as "Bertie" and when the census taker got around to deciphering his notes, he thought he had written "Gertie" and ended up recording her as "Gertrude." Or maybe, he just got his lines mixed up. Anyway, Bertie was 36 years of age. They rented their farm, had been married for 13 years, the first marriage for each, and "Gertrude" had given birth to one child, and she was living. Gladys was 12 years old and had attended school within the census year.5
Divorce*John and Bertie were divorced, or at least separated, sometime between 25 April 1910, when they were together on the 1910 census, and 2 October 1919 when John, who had moved to Montana, married his second wife, stating on their marriage license that he had been previously married and was divorced.5,6,7
Marriage*2 October 1919He married second, as her first husband, Annie Helen Twitchell, daughter of Fordyce P. Twitchell and Maria Robinson, on 2 October 1919 in Great Falls, Cascade County, Montana.8,6
Census US 1920*11 January 1920Anna and John G. Pierce were enumerated on the 1920 census taken on 11 January 1920 at 807 1st Avenue, Great Falls, Cascade County, Montana. John was 42 years of age and a furniture merchant, and Anna was 38 years of age and worked as a clerk in a bank. They rented their home and had two lodgers enumerated in their household in 1920. Elinatena Chester was age 32, single, and worked as a saleslady in a store; and Harry Knapp was age 35, single, and worked as an insurance agent.9
Census US 1930*4 April 1930Anna Helen and John G. Pierce were enumerated on the 1930 census taken on 4 April 1930 on Montana Street, Valier, Pondera County, Montana. John was 53 years of age and self-employed as a retail merchant in a general store, and Anne was 49 years of age. They rented their house for $22 a month, did not own a radio set, and had one son enumerated with them in 1930. Robert W. was 9 years old and had attended school within the census year.10
Divorce*John and Anne were divorced, or at least separated, sometime between 4 April 1930, when they were together on the 1930 census, and 26 June 1931 when John married his third wife and stated on their Marriage License that he had been previously married and was a widower. His first wife, Alberta (Sigerson) Pierce, called herself a widow until her death in 1947, and his second wife, Annie (Twitchell) Pierce, was recorded as "married" on the 1940 census after she and their son Robert moved to Washington state. Annie appears to have considered herself married until her death in 1961.10,1
Marriage*26 June 1931He married third, as her third husband, Della (Grenier) Mallo, daughter of Henry A. Grenier and Aurelia Tetreau, on 26 June 1931 in Helena, Lewis and Clark County, Montana. Both John and Della reported being married before, and both reported being widowed, although both of John's two previous wives were alive. John's age was recorded as 54 and Della, whose name was typed into the record as "Dee", was reported as 47 years of age.1
Death*27 March 1935He died of chronic myocarditis on 27 March 1935 in Montana State Hospital, Warm Springs, Deer Lodge County, Montana, at age 572,3
Cremation* and was cremated, with his ashes entombed in Carnation, Tier 6 of the Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Mausoleum, Great Falls, Cascade County, Montana.3

Marriage*before 7 March 1759He married Elizabeth Britt, daughter of ______ Britt, about a year before 7 March 1759 in Goochland County, Virginia. They very likely married about a year before that date because, unfortunately, the marriage date reported for them in The Douglas Register is incorrect, and is actually the date of birth of the oldest of their children found in the birth and baptism section of the Register starting on page 150.1
