The couple's daughters, Rebecca 10, Ann 8, Maria 6, Priscilla 3, and Emma 1, completed the family. Henry Clack, a 20-year-old lodger who worked as an agricultural laborer also resided in the Dell household in 1851.1 
Census Wales 1861*1861Mary and John Dell were enumerated on the 1861 census on Oak Road, West Bromwich, Staffordshire. John and Mary were both 44 years of age and John was working as a caster. Their family had grown and eleven of their children were enumerated in their parents' household. Richard was 23 and worked as a laborer, Rebecca, Ann and Maria, ages 20, 18 and 16 respectively, all worked as factory girls, Priscilla, Emma, Selina, Mary and Catherine, ages 13, 11, 9, 7 and 5 respectively, were all scholars, and Jane, who was 3, and Hannah at 9 months, were the two youngest.2

Benjamin was 45 years of age and a farmer with real estate valued at $3,000. Mary was 37. On June 1 their household had consisted of 7 of their combined children, two of Benjamin's children from his first marriage, four of Mary's children from her first marriage, and a baby boy of their new marriage. Catharine Heaton, who had married by the time the census was taken in October, had her age reported as 17 in June, William Heaton was 15, Jane Weeks 16, Mary Weeks 14, William Weeks 12, John Weeks 7, and the baby Samuel Heaton was one year old. All of the children, with the exception of Samuel, had attended school within the year. Also residing in the household in 1850 were four young men working as laborers. Benjamin's daughter Celia Jane and her husband Lathan Edwards were enumerated in the next household on the same census page.2 
Census US 1860*1 June 1860Mary and Ben Heaton were enumerated on the 1860 census taken on 1 June 1860 in Hardin, Calhoun County, Illinois. Ben was 60 years of age, reported his occupation as "gentleman", had real estate valued at $30,000 and a personal estate valued at $400. Mary was 50. Only two of their children lived with their parents in 1860. B.F. was 20 and Sarah was 9 and had attended school within the year.4

Britt, for and in consideration of $50 to them in hand, the receipt is hereby acknowledged, have bargained and sold, and by these presents do bargain, sell and convey unto the said Robert Taylor, a certain tract or parcel of land lying in Barren County on little Glovers Creek adjoining Picken's Mill and bounded as follows: Beginning at a stooping poplar, thence North 56 poles to a poplar and dogwood, South 53 degrees East 88 poles to a white oak, saw wood and dogwood on a hillside South 47 degrees West 24 poles to a small poplar at Tinsley corner, then on the Tinsley's line South 83 degrees West 34 poles to a white oak, South 59 degrees West 52 poles to a white oak and South 79 degrees West 42 poles to a hickory and three dogwoods at Tinsley's corner on road, thence North 49¼ degrees East 72 poles to the beginning, containing 25 acres more or less. And the said Mary Britt, John Britt, Nancy Bridges, Joseph Pardue, Mary Britt junior, and William H. Pardue, for themselves and their heirs and for George Britt, Eliza Britt and William Y. Britt, and for George Britt, Eliza Britt and William Y. Britt, for themselves and their heirs, do all of them, severally and individually, hereby covenant and agree to warrant and forever defend the aforesaid premises with all its appurtenances and improvements unto the said Robert Taylor, his heirs and assigns forever, free from and against the claims of themselves and against the claims of themselves and against the claims of George Britt, Eliza Britt and William Y. Britt and against the claim or claims of all or any person or persons whomsoever.

In testimony whereof, the said Mary Britt, John Britt, Nancy Bridges, Joseph Pardue, Mary Britt junior, William H. Pardue, George Britt, Eliza Britt and William Y. Britt, have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and date first above written.

X marks were made and sealed by Mary Britt senior, John Britt, Nancy Bridges, Joseph Pardue, Mary Britt junior, William H. Pardue, George Britt, Eliza Britt and William Y. Britt, all on 15 August 1843.

The successor clerk of Barren County added his note that the deed of Mary Britt senior, John Britt, Nancy Bridges, Joseph Pardue, Mary Britt junior, and William H. Pardue, was proven on 19 September 1843 before his predecessor by the oath of Samuel Perkins, a subscribing witness thereto, to be the act and deed of the grantors, and on 19 August 1844 was fully proven before said predecessor by the oath of Joseph Stephens, another subscribing witness thereto, to be the act and deed of said grantors. Wherefore the deed and certification were recorded on 23 June 1853 in Barren County, Kentucky.6

An Ellen was enumerated with the family as a 77 year old widowed daughter. While this was obviously a mistake, this researcher is unable to determine whether Ellen was actually a relative of the Hinds family or should have been enumerated with the next family listed.2 
Census England 1891Mary A. and Robert Hinds appeared on the 1891 census in the Civil Parish of Worsley, Ecclesiastical Parish of Christchurch, Newton, Lancashire, England. Robert was 43 and Mary A. was 47, and their four children resided with them. Mary L. was 11, Walter T. was 8, Fanny was 7 and Margaret E. was 5. Emily Venables was enumerated as a visitor in home at the time of the census.1
