He was 20 years old and a Taylor, and his destination was recorded as New York. Deed Memorial*28 April 1738A memorial of an indented deed of assignment dated 28 April 1738 was made between Anne Gerrard of the town of Drogheda, County Louth, widow and relict of Thomas Gerrard late of Drogheda aforesaid, alderman, deceased, Samuel Gerrard of the same, brazier, executor of the last will and testament of the said Thomas Gerrard, William Newton Esq. of Kells in the county of Meath and Elizabeth Hale of Drogheda, widow, relict and sole executrix of Edward Hale, late of the same, apothecary, deceased, of the one part and John McDowell of the same, gentleman of the other part.

Reciting as therein is recited, whereby the said Elizabeth Hale, for and in consideration of the sum of £211 to her in hand paid, and the said Anne Gerrard, Samuel Gerrard and William Newton, for the sum of 5 shillings sterling to every of them in hand paid by the said John McDowell, the receipt of which said several sums is by the said deed acknowledged did, and each and every of them did, grant, bargain, sell, transfer, assign, release and confirm unto the said John McDowell all that and those the two houses and gardens measuring and bounding on the east on the town wall, on the southwest gate, on the north the tower next to the Lime Kill and to the west the highway leading to the old windmill or Dundalk. Also all that and those the four small parcels lying in land Sharragh formerly on alderman William Ford's charge measuring and bounding according to a map to a deed of lease in the said deed recited annexed, and also all that park lying near Baymore on the south side of the town of Drogheda aforesaid, containing by estimation 7 acres and 5 perches be the same more or less, bounding to Mr. Ball's land, north to Edward Jones's land, west to the land of Baymore on the south and to the road leading to Baymore on the east, together with all houses and improvements whatsoever made or erected on aforesaid premises and all the estate terms for years, right, title, interest, equity of redemption, property, claim, challenge and demand whatsoever, either in lower equity of them the said Elizabeth Hale, Anne Gerrard, Samuel Gerrard and William Newton, or any of them, of, in, or to the said premises by virtue of the several deeds of lease and assignment therein recited or otherwise howsoever.

To have and to hold the said lands, tenements and premises with their members and appurtenances unto the said John McDowell, his executors, administrators and assigns, to his and their use and behoof for and during all the rest residue and remainder of the several and respective terms of 51 and 61 years of the several leases therein recited then to come and unexpired at and under the yearly rents and covenants therein reserved and contained.

The deed of assignment was witnessed by William Sweet Love of the town of Drogheda, apothecary, and Cornelius McLaughlin of the same, merchant, and the memorial was witnessed by the said Cornelius McLaughlin and Michael Bird of the same, gentleman. The documents were duly executed, signed and sealed by all parties and the memorial was registered on 10 June 1738.1

Census State IA 1856*1856Catharine and Irvin Polhemus were listed on the Iowa State census for 1856 in Brookfield, Clinton County, Iowa. Irvin was 34 years of age and farming; he was a native voter, had served in the militia and was an owner of land. Catharine was 37 years of age. They had lived in Iowa for six years. Listed with them in 1856 was Elizabeth Haskins, who was recorded with the surname Polhemus. Elizabeth was 3 years old and had lived in Iowa for six months. Thomas Nichol, who was 12 years old and had been born in Canada, was also listed in the Polhemus household in 1856. He had lived in Iowa for three years.2 
Census US 1860*16 August 1860Catharine and Irvin Polhemus were enumerated on the 1860 census taken on 16 August 1860 in Brookfield, Clinton County, Iowa. Irvin was 38 years of age and a farmer with real estate valued at $900 and a personal estate valued at $400, and Catharine was 40 years of age. Joseph Haskins, who was 14 years old, and his sister, Elizabeth Haskins, who was age 7, were enumerated together in the Polhemus household in 1860. They had both attended school within the census year.3

In the name of God Amen, I John Meyer of the Borough of Easton in the County of Northampton and State of Pennsylvania, being very sick in body, but of sound mind, memory and understanding, blessed be God for the same, but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and publish this my Last Will and Testament in the manner and form following, to wit:

Principally, and first of all I commend my immortal soul into the hands of God who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors herein after named, and as to such worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give and dispose of the same in the following manner, to wit:

First, it is my will and I do order that all my just debts and funeral expenses be duly paid and satisfied as soon as conveniently can be after my decease.

Item. I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Catherine the use and occupation of my house and lot in the Borough of Easton aforesaid, together with all my personal estate for her support for and during her natural life or widowhood, and in case my said wife shall see fit at any time to dispose of the said personal Estate, and the same to apply for her support during the time aforesaid, without any hindrance from any of my heirs.

Item. It is my will that my daughter Catherine shall live in my said house with my said wife so long as she remains single, but in case my said wife and she cannot agree, and my said wife wishes to live alone, in such case she shall immediately remove from the premises at my said wife’s desire.

And it is my will that immediately after the decease of my said wife, I do order and direct that my executors hereinafter named shall sell and dispose of all my real estate situate in the Borough of Easton or elsewhere at public vendue (together with my personal estate that shall remain after my wife’s death) to such person or persons and for such price or prices as may be reasonably gotten for the same and for that purpose I do authorize and empower my said Executor to sign, seal, execute and acknowledge all such deed or deeds of conveyance as may be requisite and necessary for the granting and assuring the same to the purchaser or purchasers thereof in fee simple. And the monies arising from such sale, together with my personal property, shall be divided into six equal shares, to wit:

One share to my daughter Elizabeth, one share to the heirs of my son Christopher, deceased, one share to my son John, one share to my son Jacob, one share to my son Peter, and the other share unto my daughter Catherine, and to their, and to each of their heirs and assigns.

And lastly, I nominate, constitute and appoint my said wife Catherine Executrix and my son John Executor of this my Will, hereby revoking all other wills, legacies and bequests by me heretofore made and declaring this and no other to be my last will testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal at the Borough of Easton the 4th day of February in the year of our Lord 1807, and he signed his will Johannes Muir in the presence of witnesses, William Roup and Jacob Shipe.1

Another 2-year-old child, Henry Mowen, was also enumerated with the Gilberts in 1880, and Henry's three older Mowen siblings, ages 13, 9 and 3 years, were enumerated with the Long family two households above that of the Gilberts on the same census page.1
