Relationship Note*Before departing England together on the James, Antony Thacher and Reverend Joseph Avery, calling themselves "cousins", had been very close friends and had made an agreement to settle their families in the same place.3 
Relocation*15 August 1635 Neither the exact place, nor date, of landing in New England of the ship James has been agreed upon by historians. Whether Boston, Newbury or Ipswich, wherever the passengers first landed, Antony Thacher and Joseph Avery and their families sojourned for a short time in Ipswich, Massachusetts. While there, Reverend Avery received a call to preach in Marblehead, then a part of Salem. During the time he took for deliberation, the two families removed to Newbury with plans to settle there. But after Avery accepted the call to Marblehead, he and his family of eleven all told, accompanied by Antony Thacher and his wife Elizabeth (Jones) Thacher, and his children by his first wife, William, Edith, Mary and Peter, went back to Ipswich. From there they embarked for Marblehead. Antony Thacher's nephew, Thomas Thacher, who had sailed with his uncle's family to New England, felt a sentiment of evil about the trip and did not accompany them on the voyage. Instead Thomas decided to make the journey overland despite the danger of being attacked by hostile Indians. The Thacher-Avery party embarked from Ipswich for Marblehead in a pinnace and the vessel was wrecked on 15 August 1635. All on board were lost except Antony Thacher and his second wife Elizabeth (Jones) Thacher.3 
Residence*After some moving around, Elizabeth and Antony Thacher settled in Yarmouth, Plymouth Colony.3 
Occupation* The probable cause of Antony Thacher's emigration was his desire to secure a home free from religious persecution so prevalent in England at that time. It was probably because of his religion that he called himself a "tayler" on the passenger list of the James, when in reality he was, or had been almost up to the time of his sailing, a curate of the established English Church in Salisbury. As a tailor, he would have been able to avoid the rigid scrutiny he would have had to undergo if he had announced himself as formerly a curate of an English Church of pronounced Puritan faith. He may actually have been a tailor by trade, as curates of Puritan faith were often in the humble callings of life; but if that was the case, it is certain that in New England he never followed his trade, but was always regarded as a man of literary attainments and occupied a leading and prominent position in his community.3

(1st Daughter) Emigration5 April 1635Edith sailed from Southampton, Hampshire, England, to New England on 5 April 1635 with her parents and three of her siblings on the ship James of London.1 
(Daughter) Relocation15 August 1635 Neither the exact place, nor date, of landing in New England of the ship James has been agreed upon by historians. Whether Boston, Newbury or Ipswich, wherever the passengers first landed, Antony Thacher and Joseph Avery and their families sojourned for a short time in Ipswich, Massachusetts. While there, Reverend Avery received a call to preach in Marblehead, then a part of Salem. During the time he took for deliberation, the two families removed to Newbury with plans to settle there. But after Avery accepted the call to Marblehead, he and his family of eleven all told, accompanied by Antony Thacher and his wife Elizabeth (Jones) Thacher, and his children by his first wife, William, Edith, Mary and Peter, went back to Ipswich. From there they embarked for Marblehead. Antony Thacher's nephew, Thomas Thacher, who had sailed with his uncle's family to New England, felt a sentiment of evil about the trip and did not accompany them on the voyage. Instead Thomas decided to make the journey overland despite the danger of being attacked by hostile Indians. The Thacher-Avery party embarked from Ipswich for Marblehead in a pinnace and the vessel was wrecked on 15 August 1635. All on board were lost except Antony Thacher and his second wife Elizabeth (Jones) Thacher.1 
Death*15 August 1635Edith, along with her sister and two brothers, drowned in the pinnace's shipwreck on 15 August 1635. None of the children's bodies were recovered. Edith was 13 years of age.1

Illness*2 May 1764At the age of 12, Peter was seriously ill with small pox, and wrote about the illness and its impact on his life in his private journal on 2 May 1764. His mother would die from the disease two months later and his father died the following year, the cause not identified.3 
Education*1769Peter entered Master Lovell's school in July of 1759 and should have continued as a pupil there until July of 1766, however he left it for Harvard College, Boston, a year early and graduated from there in 1769.7

However, even with the additional care of a doctor and the friendship, support and encouragement of his several clerical friends in Savannah, Peter gradually declined until finally overcome by the force of his disease.9
